About Erik Lunde

A Folk-Rock poet and Americana songsmith with a captivating voice, cinematic songs, and a dynamic stage presence, Colorado-based artist Erik Lunde "pens lyrics that are haunting and memorable poetry married with one of the widest arrays of melodies this area knows". Born and raised in small townWisconsin, Lunde left his midwestern home two weeks after his high school graduation and and wandered all over the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Europe, hopping from place to place like a character in a Jack Kerouac novel, searching for stories and songs and experiences, and chalking up about 40 different addresses across North America, Erik Lunde is a songwriter and musician whose songs and sound bears the geography, culture, and history of his midwestern origins. Influenced by a wide variety of genres including gospel hymns, bluegrass, traditional country, rock & roll, and artists like Elton John, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, The Beatles, and David Bowie - Lunde has created his own genre-bending mashup that reflects that dichotomy.

The founder and frontman of the Lunde Station band, a well-known staple on the Northern Colorado music scene from 2012 -2017, Lunde has re-emerged as a solo singer-songwriter, performing under his own name, and is releasing a newly completed album of original Folk-Rock & Americana songs entitled Water From The Stone on September, 17th, 2021.

Before he became a father – Erik Lunde was a wayfaring nomad, troubadour, and wandering poet. Hopping from place to place like a character in a Jack Kerouac novel, Lunde’s religion was worshipping at the temple of art, music, and travel. It was totally irresponsible, he admits, but richly rewarding – he spent twenty years on the road, falling in and out of love, chalking up 40 different addresses across North America, and at the same time, penning down his experiences through song.

Twenty years later – life looks different for Lunde. His lackadaisical dreams of a nomadic youth have been met with the realities of parenthood, devotion, and being the breadwinner for a family. It wasn’t easy transitioning from his wild freedom to the contentment that comes with stability –  but what Lunde has now, that he didn’t then, is humility and wisdom. Less hubris.

With his greater depth of knowledge of the human experience, Lunde spelunkers in the depths of the human psyche – exploring themes of lust, loneliness, and longing. “It’s because I’m a Scorpio. It’s all sex, death and resurrection. That must be it,” – he jokes without being entirely kidding.

BandWagon Magazine writes, “‘Water From The Stone’ is Lunde at his most epic. What begins with the familiar folk style of previous work soon explodes with southern rock licks and heavy percussion. This is Lunde at his best."

Each song on “Water From The Stone” is a vignette into the poetic experiences he had on the road. The songs come from a weird boarding house situation in Austin, Texas. A studio apartment in Portland, Oregon. A strange old farm Lunde house-sat in British Columbia. A house shared with an ex-fiancee in Santa Barbara, California. A rental apartment in downtown Prague. The record took a collective 20 years of traveling, four years of recording, five different studios, and a lot of good friends to manifest in its form today.

“Water From The Stone” will be available on all streaming platforms January, 28th 2022.
